Absences:

If your child is going to be absent, please email both Mrs. Shafer in the office and me.  You can contact the office using the following email:  shaferk@usd113.org. It would be helpful if you would pick up your child’s work for the day by making arrangements with me and the office for doing so.

Homework:

Your child will be expected to practice spelling words, to practice math facts, and to read.  Backpack Pages from our Reading Series, Superkids, will be sent home weekly.  Once these are completed, your child will return them by Thursday.

Transportation Paper:

This paper is yellow and was sent home in the front of the binder unless you completed it at Back to School Night.  Please fill this out and return it ASAP. Thanks!

Papers for the Week

At the end of the week, your child’s papers will be put in a large manila envelope.  Please take the papers out and look them over with your child.  Return the EMPTY envelope on the following Monday (or first day of the school week.)

Snacks

We will have a designated time for snacks daily in the room.  If your child would like to participate in this, please send a snack daily with your child.  We will not have a shared snack unless there is a special occasion (example:  teacher brings a snack or someone brings birthday treats).  Please remember, it is encouraged that treats being shared with the entire class be purchased and prepackaged.

Your child will not be able to store snacks, so it will be important to send something daily if he/she wants to participate.  Students will also not be able to share snacks to avoid any potential reactions to food allergies and the spreading of germs.

If you have questions about this, let me know!  Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

How can you help from home?

  • Donate materials/supplies for special projects, etc.
  • Trace patterns for class projects
  • Cut out items

Donate purchased, prepackaged treats for special classroom activities

  Birthdays:

Your child is welcome to celebrate his/her birthday.  You may send simple treats, which we will enjoy at 1:30 (our scheduled snack time).  Please contact me to let me know when you would like to have your child celebrate his/her birthday.  This is important as our schedule may change.

It is encouraged for treats being shared with the entire class be purchased and prepackaged.

The KSDE Wellness Policy states that no pop or candy is allowed in school until after 3:15PM.  Please consider this when selecting treats to share.  I will update this when I know of any classroom allergies.

Water Bottle:

Your child may bring a water bottle to school to use. Mark the water bottle with your child’s name.  Please send it filled with water and instruct your child to bring it home daily.  It can then be cleaned, filled with water, and sent the next day of school. Water bottles can also be filled in our classroom at the sink.
