How Can You Help at Home?

Things you can do at home to help your child succeed in school:

*Ask your child about our Second Step lessons.  We are learning how to behave appropriately in the classsroom (listening, focusing, controlling our emotions, etc.) and how to have empathy and compassion.

*Visit with your child about appropriate school behavior on a daily basis.

*Have a discussion with your child about being kind to each other, at all times.

*Turn off electronics and talk to your child.  {Need a topic?  Ask about their Second Step lessons, what they are learning in Social Studies (Studies Weekly) or Science, or what they did during recess (who they played with and what they played)}.

*Read books together and discuss them.

*Study weekly spelling words and complete any homework that is in your child's binder.

*Give your child coins (penny, nickel, dime, and quarter)...ask him/her to identify the coin and tell the value.

*Give your child a handful of coins and have them find the total value of the coins.

*Practice basic addition facts through 20.  If your child struggles, practice combinations of ten (2+8, 4+6, 3+7, etc.).

*Make sure your child gets adequate rest, has a good breakfast, and arrives to school on time.
